- Accompanies CHEM 4456.
- Integrates elements of experimental design, organic synthesis, isolation and characterization of organic compounds, and interpretation of experimental observations.
- Students, working in small groups, evaluate a multistep synthesis of a compound developed for clinical trials as an anticancer agent, conducting the synthetic sequence, completing each reaction, characterizing the products, and interpreting and reporting the results.
- A final report in the form of an American Chemical Society (ACS) manuscript summarizes each group’s efforts.
