- Offers students an opportunity to obtain a comprehensive grounding in the chemistry of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and its application to drug design and optimization.
- Multiple rounds of chemical synthesis and testing are usually required to discover new drugs with the appropriate balance of properties such as potency and selectivity, efficacy in preclinical models of disease, safety, and pharmacokinetics.
- Introduces students to modern tools and concepts utilized to screen for favorable DMPK properties, as well as methods to predict human PK from in vitro and preclinical data.
- Examines the linkage between drug levels in the body, pharmacodynamic response (PK/PD), and drug-drug interactions in the context of the iterative process of chemical drug synthesis.
