- Begins with classical thermodynamics laws that govern macroscopic conservation, equilibrium stability, and irreversible processes, including open processes, multicomponent phase equilibrium, and reaction equilibrium.
- Introduces relationships between microscopic states and macroscopic properties, applied to understand systems such as non ideal fluids, crystalline solids, polymers, and electrolytes.
- Statistical thermodynamics concepts may also be applied through the use of analytical theory and computational molecular modeling.
