- Introduces the basic concepts involved in conducting research in the areas of the criminal justice system and criminology.
- Through lectures, group discussions, and readings, familiarizes students with the scientific methods that are necessary for systematic analysis of crime trends, offender behavior, program effectiveness, and public attitudes about crime and justice.
- Critiques the historical role of racism and other biases in the development and implementation of research questions and methods.
- Offers students an opportunity to become capable of developing a research question, investigating and critiquing how it has been researched, developing a research design, and administering its implementation.
