- Writing cultures explores writing with and about people.
- What is at stake and for whom when writing cultures?
- How best to document a language and cultural practice, for what audiences, and whose purposes?
- What ethical and social responsibilities arise when researching and representing cultures?
- In this class, students explore these questions as they learn qualitative methods for writing about cultures and writing within cultures.
- In writing assignments designed to lead to a journal article, students can choose to compile results from qualitative research of their own.
- Alternatively, students can choose to co-author research on Cherokee language manuscripts and community-based web design as part of the DAILP: Digital Archive of Indigenous Language Persistence, https://dailp.northeastern.edu/.
