- Presents an integrated overview of biological, chemical, physical, and geological processes operating in the world's oceans.
- Emphasizes understanding the fragility and resilience of marine systems in the face of human-driven perturbations such as habitat fragmentation, elevated sea surface temperature and acidification, non-native species, nonsustainable fishing and aquaculture, and coastal land use.
- Offers students an opportunity to prepare for further course work in both marine biology and in earth, oceans, and environmental change.
